During the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the critical importance of strengthening sporting infrastructure outside of India’s major cities. The project, which commenced in July 2023, represents nearly three years of planning and execution to ensure international standards were met.

The facility is divided into specialized zones to cater to every aspect of an athlete’s needs:

• The Ground Floor: This level is dedicated to holistic health and recovery. It is equipped with a modern gymnasium, a swimming pool, and a cafeteria. To ensure players can recover quickly from intense training sessions, the facility includes specialized ice baths and massage facilities, alongside standard locker rooms.
• Technical Infrastructure: The building is supported by dedicated IT and electrical rooms to manage the academy’s modern operations.
• Cricket Training Zone: The core of the facility consists of several indoor cricket training pitches. These pitches provide a professional environment where players can hone their skills without the interruptions of the external environment.
• Spectator Areas: To encourage community engagement and scouting, the academy features a dedicated viewing deck and a terrace area for spectators.

Similar high-end facilities have recently been inaugurated in other states, including Sikkim, Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland. Overcoming Challenges: The Mizoram Journey

Mizoram’s journey in domestic cricket has been one of resilience despite significant hurdles. The state made its official domestic debut during the 2018 season, playing its first match against Nagaland at the Nagaland Cricket Association Stadium in Sovima.

However, the road to success has been steep. In the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season, the Mizoram team struggled in the Plate Group, finishing at the bottom of the table after suffering five defeats in five matches. For years, the state’s progress has been hindered by limited resources and a lack of professional infrastructure.
