Initially, Bengaluru was slated to host the IPL 2026 final on May 31, a decision that brought immense excitement to the local fanbase. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shifted the final to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 8. Furthermore, playoff matches were redistributed to HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala and Mullanpur, leaving Bengaluru without any postseason hosting duties.

The official word from the BCCI regarding the venue change pointed toward challenges that were “beyond the scope of BCCI’s established guidelines and protocols.” While not explicitly detailed, industry insiders suggest that a confluence of operational hurdles and local administrative demands influenced the board’s decision.

The Ticket Controversy and Political Involvement

• Lighting Upgrades: A major technical overhaul is planned, with state-of-the-art LED lighting systems being installed not only at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium but also at the Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadeyar Cricket Stadium in Mysuru and the KSCA Stadium in Hubballi.

Venkatesh Prasad noted, “We had close to 28 architects—from across the globe—show interest in redesigning and redeveloping the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. We are in the process of shortlisting the final team of architects.”
