According to reports, these individuals have been spotted in sensitive areas, including team hotels, on team buses, and—most alarmingly—within the dugout during match days.

The Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) is a strictly regulated zone designed to ensure that players remain isolated from external influences that could compromise the integrity of the game. The current laxity in enforcing these standards has drawn sharp criticism from the sport’s governing body.

BCCI Leadership Responds to Protocol Dilutions

IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal recently confirmed that the ACSU has submitted a formal report outlining these anomalies. Dhumal stated, ‘The Anti-Corruption and Security Unit has flagged certain anomalies and submitted a report about unauthorised persons being seen in the dugout, team bus, and team hotel during IPL matches.’ He further emphasised that there are rigorous protocols under the PMOA that must be adhered to without exception, adding that the BCCI will hold franchises accountable for upholding these standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Echoing these sentiments, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has taken a hardline stance. Following previous incidents of indiscipline that have plagued the current season, Saikia indicated that the board is no longer willing to tolerate irregularities. ‘This time, we have observed various anomalies and irregularities in the conduct of certain franchises and players,’ Saikia stated. ‘BCCI and IPL are preparing an advisory, and we are going to release that advisory to ensure all teams are on notice.’

Strict Measures on the Horizon

The concerns raised by the board go beyond simple oversight. Reports suggest that unauthorized individuals have been found interacting directly with players in private hotel rooms, a clear violation of anti-corruption mandates. Furthermore, there have been instances where team owners and officials have been seen mingling with players in restricted zones where such interactions are strictly forbidden.

The BCCI has made it clear that while previous instances of indiscipline were handled with a degree of leniency, the patience of the governing body has worn thin. The forthcoming advisory will serve as a final warning. Should any franchise or player be found in breach of these protocols after the advisory is issued, the BCCI has promised to take ‘very stringent action’ to protect the reputation of the world’s premier T20 league.
