Shibli’s 99 Powers Legends of Rupganj to Win, Gazi Group Crush Brothers Union

In the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), it was a day of contrasting matches as Legends of Rupganj and Gazi Group Cricketers picked up impressive wins.

In the battle of the two Rupganj teams, Legends of Rupganj defeated Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club by 22 runs in a high-scoring contest.

At the Cricketers Academy ground, Rupganj Tigers won the toss and chose to field first. The match was reduced to 34 overs. Batting first, Legends of Rupganj put up a strong total of 283 for 3.

Opener Ashiqur Rahman Shibli played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 99 from 84 balls, just missing out on a century. Irfan Sukkur added 60 runs from 51 balls, while Samiun Basir Ratul smashed a quick 46 off 22 balls. Mahedi Hasan also provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 49 from just 16 deliveries.

For Rupganj Tigers, Sumon Khan, Tonmoy, and Mahmudul Hasan picked up one wicket each.

Chasing 284, Rupganj Tigers got a decent start. Abdul Mazid scored 41 from 38 balls, while Kalam Siddiki Aleen played an aggressive innings of 78 from 46 balls. Later, Muktar Ali remained unbeaten on 52 from 27 balls.

However, the run rate slowed down at crucial moments, and they eventually finished on 261 for 7, falling short by 22 runs.

For Legends of Rupganj, Nasum Ahmed and Shadhin Islam took two wickets each, while Masum Khan Tutul, Abdul Halim, and Samiun Basir Ratul grabbed one wicket apiece.

Gazi Group Cricketers vs Brothers Union

In another match, Gazi Group Cricketers completely dominated Brothers Union, securing a massive 9-wicket win.

At the ULAB Cricket Ground, Gazi Group won the toss and sent Brothers Union in to bat. The decision paid off immediately, as Brothers were bowled out for just 82 runs.

Shahriar Komol scored 26 off 41 balls, and Foysal Ahmed Raihan added 21 from 43 balls, but no one else could make a significant contribution.

With the ball, Leon Islam and Mohammad Rubel were outstanding, taking three wickets each. Mohammad Aridul Islam Akash chipped in with one wicket.

Chasing a small target, Gazi Group had little trouble. Munim Shahriar was dismissed early for 11, but Naeem Ahmed anchored the innings with an unbeaten 48 off 49 balls. Rubel Mia supported him with 18 from 22 deliveries as the team comfortably reached the target with 9 wickets in hand.

For Brothers Union, Sohag Gazi took the only wicket.

Mohammad Rubel was named Player of the Match for his all-round performance.
